What’s in Your Trunk?

The trunk.
It sat looming in the corner of her newly organized office.
It was the last thing.
The last BIG to do in her quest for an organized office.
It held all of the bills and documentation from her child’s medical situation.

Opening it felt like opening Pandora’s box.
What would fly out?
Furies?
Sadness?
The memories were painful and deep.

My client needed a safe space to journey through all of those feelings.
She needed permission to do only a little bit of organizing that trunk at a time.
Most of all, she needed to feel heard.

Do you have a “trunk” like that?
A part of your work or life that you’re avoiding because there are big feelings around it?
First, I’m here to tell you that it’s ok.
Give yourself grace.
And then find someone to help.

There's no shame in asking for help.

My coach holds space for me to learn more about who I am.
So I'm able to unpack the trunk of my work and life.

Because whether we want to admit it or not (I prefer not - lol), how we do one thing is how we do anything.
If I'm having a messy day at work, you can bet something messy from my life has spilled over.
Or vice versa.

Or I've hit what Gay Hendricks calls the upper limit problem in The Big Leap.
Some yucky story in that trunk is holding me back from my next level.
And I need to break through.
But I don't know how.

We all have a trunk.
We just have different stuff in it.
But at the bottom of each is the ticket to our next level.

My coach has been there and done that.
So together we dig into the trunk to find

  • the what of the problem
  • the who I'm becoming
  • and then the why now.

But Catherine, why would I unpack the trunk now?
My life is going ok.
Only ok?
Then why not now.
